Asking a Professional Tarot Reader

Interview with Tarot Reader Violetann

Tarot is a serious business. We have asked a professional Tarot Reader about her passion for Tarot, about doing Tarot professionally and about the future. Of course.

About her passion for Tarot

When did you first came in contact with tarot and what makes it so fascinating in your opinion?

I grew up in a family who loved the paranormal and spiritual things and was very interested in learning about spirits and spiritual things.

I got my first deck when I was about 8-9 years old, from my mum and really loved using it. Tarot was always part of my life. I love reading for others and how the cards can let you see things from another perspective.

When did you decide to become a professional tarot reader?

I was going through a dark time in my life. The goals and dreams I had been chasing were slowly fading away and getting further from my reach. My dream of settling down in a nice house, getting married and having kids was going further out of reach with each year.

My life was lacking meaning. Totally lacking purpose. I had never completely given up on tarot and was looking for answers. At the same time I was struggling to read for myself. I had watched lots of YouTube tarot readings. But none of it was personal. So, I went looking for groups on Facebook for readings. I didn’t find anyone to do a reading for me. But what I did find was lots of other people who I could do readings for.

Eventually I realised that the purpose I was looking for was exactly that. I enjoyed giving others guidance and doing readings for them.

How to become a Tarot Reader

Many of our readers want to know more about becoming a professional tarot reader on YouTube. What is your experience with doing readings on YouTube, and which advice would you give to newcomers?

Getting a schedule and stick to it. It helps a lot. I made the mistake of not keeping to a schedule before. I still struggle with it but having a set time of the day to do my live readings is helping a lot. Don’t rely on YouTube showing your readings to people. Reach out to people and build communities on other platforms as well.

Is it possible to make money as a Tarot Reader?

When the pandemic hit, I got furloughed from my job of 3 years. Like many people in furlough my wages had been cut it half, so I started to do private readings as well through my website and taking paid questions on live streams. It helped to boost my money back up so I could pay bills due to the pay cut. It is possible to make it as a Tarot Reader, but you have to work as hard as everybody else.

You have also formed a Tarot Group on Facebook. Do you want to tell us more about it?

People often found it hard to find other small spiritual YouTubers to do collaborations with or just to ask technical questions like how you sell your readings or how to create a PayPal me link etc.

So being able to communicate with other youtubers who are also going through the same problems is hugely helpful. It has also meant I have met a lot of amazing YouTubers and done a lot of fun collaboration videos on other people’s channels.

Your readers are welcome to join the group if they are creating or starting a YouTube channel in the spiritual community. The only thing we ask is not to spam the group with links.

We have Tarot readers, Yoga instructors, astrologers, life coaches and more. So, there is a big range of small channels in the group.

About the Future

Your predictions for 2021?

I think 2020 was a huge wakeup call about how fragile the world we know is and how we can’t take things for granted. I think the lessons and the change which will be brought into 2021 will be less emphasise on the value of money.  The value of experiences will be much more important to most people. Much more value will be put into public health systems around the world for the long term not just due to the pandemic.

Will the situation ease up?

The effects of the pandemic have really made some governments realise that to keep the economy going you need to have a healthy population, so you have to invest in public health. I don’t think we see the change until probably 2022- but the choices to invest heavily in long term public health will be made in 2021.  I really feel like December 2020 will be when we see a major change with the pandemic for the better. But I don’t think it will be completely gone at least late 2021 – 2022 and certain aspects of being aware of cleanliness with handwashing stations and better cleaning methods will stay as new practices for better hygiene in public spaces I.e. keeping hand sanitisers around places and some people keeping masks on as it has become normal.
