Detox: How to do a Smoothie Cleanse

It all started with me eating Junk Food and having a few drinks during lock-down and my laptop dying in August. Beside the wait for my new laptop, I felt dizzy, too chubby, physically not fit and my tongue was white. Alarm-Signal. It was me, who needs a serious detox this time. Since I have been frequently asked in the past on how it do it, this year I share my detox routine with you. Get started with your detox, here is how to do a smoothie cleanse!

The Smoothie Cleanse-Guide

1. Get yourself some time.

I know. There never is. But get some. I used the time until I got my new laptop to start detoxing.

Why do you need time? Because it is important to closely listen to your body. When you detox, you develop certain needs in the food department. Who could have told me that I will suddenly fall for celery?

Stress will disturb the cleansing process seriously, and you may grave stuff that is not heathy at all.  The first days you also may feel kind of more miserable. Nausea, headache, diarrhoea, … – unpleasant stuff.

2. Get yourself lots of mineral water. Drink it.

You will need it. Drink a lot. Tee and water. According to my TCM doctor, 3 to 4 litres of water a day during detox season.

3. Get lots of vegetables and fruits for your Smoothies

Hight quality, fresh fruits and vegetables are the core of every smoothie cleanse. You can choose whatever fruit you like, and nearly all vegetables- except potatoes. Have fun in creating detoxing smoothies.

This year, I was into detoxing my liver. You can make green smoothies with spinach, celery, salad, avocado f. ex. and mix them with fruits like berries, mangos, apples, orange- and grapefruit juice.

4. Get a high-speed mixer.

You really need one. In order to detox and do a smoothie cleanse, you need a mixer. Without a high-speed mixer, you may not like your cleansing smoothies, for they would not be as creamy and juicy.

Green Smoothie

My favourite Green Smoothie

You need:

Celery
2-3 Kiwis
Cucumber
Juice of 1 Grapefruit (or 2 Oranges)
a hand full of Grapes
3 Ice Cubes

5. Do not forget to get yourself some protein.

Especially when you plan more than just a few days of detoxing. I eat a mix of nuts, dried fruits, pistachios and banana chips. I also eat eggs and fish and fried sweet potatoes occasionally. Because I just do not like to stay hungry and normally I am more the Paleo kind of type.

Just make sure you do not starve yourself over a few weeks’ time period, without getting enough nutrients. Whatever you like to eat besides, is not wrong, if it is freshly cooked.

6. Detox: Quit Fat and Sugar, Alcohol and Nicotine.

Yes. There is no sense in a smoothie cleanse otherwise.

But no worries, after a few days of cleansing, you will no longer grave these things as bad as before.

7. Take long baths, showers, swims, walks, sleeps – meditate.

8. Massage the body with pure Sesame Oil.

The oil helps to remove toxins. Wash it of after with sea salt peeling, repeat

9. Get your self checked. Let them look for parasites.

Unpopular topic, but everyone has parasites, and no one ever is looking for them. As you let your cats and dogs deworm every year at the vet’s, do yourself the favour and deworm yourself from time to time.

10. Smoke out the room and clean the air.

How long should I do a smoothie cleanse?

When you plan to do it 3 days, that is fine. But you can extend this timespan, of course. The funny thing about detoxing is, that you automatically will grave healthy food after a while.
